Duration: 32 hours of teaching time
Provides candidates with the knowledge and skills to teach core Red Cross First Aid & CPR courses: Emergency and Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency and Standard Child Care First Aid. Includes how to teach and facilitate, individual and group assignments, practice teaching, injury prevention principles, inclusion, and progressive learning.

Red Cross First Aid Instructor Trainer
Prerequisites
Proof of current Standard First Aid (or higher) with CPR-HCP; ability to complete all first aid and CPR skills effectively without coaching; min. 18 years old.
The following individuals can opt for a transfer course instead: a) current First Aid or CPR Instructors with another recognized organization; b) current Red Cross Swimming & Water Safety Instructors with Standard First Aid and CPR Level HCP; c) former Red Cross First Aid Instructors(certification expired between 2 and 5 years); d) teachers with an Education degree and current Standard First Aid and CPR Level HCP. The transfer is a 16-hour course or self-study and 7-8.5-hour course.
Completion
100% attendance, skills demonstration, complete practice teaching, and 80% min. passing grade on written exam
Post-course Requirements
Meets the requirement of the co-teach form as outlined by the Instructor Trainer
Certification
3-year certification as Red Cross First Aid Instructor
Recertification
8 hours; adheres to local legislation

Canadian Red Cross Accredited First Aid Instructor Recertification Program
Duration: 8 Hours
Description: This one-day recertification course provides instructors with updates and refreshes the knowledge and skills acquired in the First Aid Instructor course to facilitate core Red Cross First Aid & CPR courses: Emergency and Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency and Standard Childcare First Aid. Includes a refresher on how to teach and facilitate which includes individual and group assignments, practice teaching, injury prevention principles, inclusion, and progressive learning.
Prerequisites: Valid Canadian Red Cross Instructor Certification
Current Canadian Red Cross First-Aid Instructor (FAI) Certification – Completion of the Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor Update *(Please login to your MyRC or call us if you have any questions) – Please ensure that you have taught 3 Canadian Red Cross courses, one of which being an SFA-C & AED (within the past 3 years).
